The time of year is quickly coming around where those who are in love become extremely soppy. Soon enough, we'll wake up to an entire day where our social media feeds will be drowning in long paragraphs that friends have written all about how 'bae' has changed their life, followed by endless romantic pictures - some of which really could have stayed in their camera-roll. The last thing you want to see as a singleton on this depressing day is a picture of someone and their partner kissing, right?

When you're single and Valentine's Day comes around, you're constantly surrounded by love. whether that's seeing an old couple walking hand in hand around the park, or seeing children more than a decade younger than you leaving school with 10 Valentine's cards and 3 boxes of chocolates in their hand. On a normal day, these things would probably make our hearts melt with cuteness, but instead fuels us with jealousy.

If you're single and dreading the 14th February, I can assure you, you don't need to hide from all the airy fairy love-birds out there.

How, you may ask? Well, it's a day about love... you don't necessarily need a 'bae' for this! The definition of love is 'a feeling of deep affection', and the definition of affection is 'a feeling of fondness or liking'. You're bound to like someone, and whether that someone is your mum, your best friend, or even your pet, let this be a day that you show your love for them. Instead of hibernating in your bedroom with a litre of ice-cream watching romance movies like Titanic or The Notebook, get up, get ready and make your day about you and your favourite person. Take the trend from the Parks and Recreation television show, and turn the 14th Feb into 'Galentine's Day'.

There's never been a better excuse to round up all your girl-friends and spend the entire day celebrating your friendship.

On the more expensive side, you could treat yourselves to a pamper day at the spa. Spend the entire day relaxing by a heated pool, enjoying treatments and shutting off from the outside world while chilling out with your best friends. You could even splash out and enjoy a bottle of bubbly. Pure Bliss.

If pampering isn't your thing, why not go for a traditional date day with your gal pals and go to see that film you've been dying to watch. Get your favourite sweets and chocolate and go to the movies! Top tip: If you want to avoid the couples, steer clear from the romance films!

Why not wine and dine yourselves and go to your all-time favourite restaurant. Have a slap-up meal and then go to a cocktail bar afterwards and dance the night away. You never know, you might meet bae after all!

Or if you would rather spend the day eating a litre of ice-cream in front of the TV, we won't judge you!
