Have you ever looked at someone and wondered how they look so perfect? There are a million questions running through your head, asking ‘how is their eyeshadow so perfectly blended? How is their skin so flawless? How are their eyebrows so brilliantly sculpted? I bet your bottom dollar that they have so many tips and tricks up their sleeve to achieve that ever-so-perfect look that you so desire.
So. What exactly are these hacks?
Bold, beautiful brows
In this day and age, your eyebrows can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. Those hairy sisters placed on your forehead have become a statement feature for most makeup looks these days, but how are people making them look so defined and sculpted?
If this is the look you’re going for, concealer is your new best friend. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is a great product to build your brows to the perfect boldness. Start by shaping the bottom line of your brows, using hair-like strokes to give them that natural look. Take your favourite concealer and sculpt around the entire brow. Use a spoolie to brush through to get rid of any harsh lines, and blend the concealer in with your foundation. Voila, you now have perfect brows!
Winged eyeliner
If you can master the winged eyeliner look with a free-hand, you truly are a makeup wizard. For those of us who struggle – and believe me, there’s many – there are luckily some ways that you can, too, create the perfect cat-eye. All you really need is a flat edge – while some use their debit cards or a ruler, it is in fact easier to use Sellotape. Take a piece, roughly 10cm and stick it to your face in the shape that you would like your winged liner to go. Tape it just under the outer corner of your eye angling upwards. You then have a stencil to work with – it doesn’t matter now how rough you are with the eyeliner, as none of it will go below that tape. Once the stencil is removed, you have a perfectly drawn cat-eye – without the frustration. Result!
Cut crease
The cut crease has become a popular eye look which looks pretty technical to achieve. There are a few tips and tricks that can help you to create this look. Again, concealer will be your best friend. Get some concealer, preferably the lightest colour you can use. Once you have applied and blended your eyeshadow, put a small amount of concealer above your top lash line and then open your eye and look up. That concealer will then transfer onto the higher part of your lid, creating a starting point. You can then follow that top dot and create the semi-circle of the cut crease. Fill that semi-circle with concealer, wait to it to dry and then put a white concealer over the top of it to set it.
Long, luscious lashes
Eyelashes are one of those things that you are either blessed with or you’re not. Everyone has them, but some people can literally just apply mascara and go. Other people aren’t so lucky, and have straight, downward lashes. For those people, the eyelash curler is the best thing to ever be invented. While the eyelash curler is great, you can use a hairdryer to warm them up, which will help to create a longer lasting curl. Point the dryer at the eyelash curlers on a warm heat for about 15-20 seconds. The curlers are metal, which means they will be extremely hot – so do not put them straight to your eyelid as it will burn. To test the heat, place the curlers on your inner wrist. Once the heat isn’t too intense, you can then proceed to curl your lashes as normal. Also, using a waterproof mascara will help to keep that curl lasting longer!
